NegotiateCOP - Supporting Climate Negotiations

NegotiateCOP is a collaborative project working to enhance transparency and accessibility in global climate negotiations. Our goal is to provide the tool as an open Digital Public Good available equally to all delegations, contributing to levelling the playing field in negotiations.

International negotiations, particularly within the framework of the United Nations, are complex and challenging. This is especially true for global climate negotiations, where a large number of actors, negotiation topics, geopolitical tensions and national interests come together.

The disparity in resources between delegations adds another challenge. Smaller delegations, particularly from developing countries, often have fewer resources to process the large amounts of information and complex documentation involved in climate negotiations.

Following a whole-of-government approach, the project brings together the Data Labs of several German Federal Ministries and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The application incorporates AI technologies to identify patterns and connections within negotiation documents.

Smaller delegations in particular can use NegotiateCOP to better navigate large amounts of information and more effectively represent their interests.

Beyond COP30: Our shared objective is to create a scalable solution that countries can build upon and adapt for future negotiation processes.
