Diplomacy often requires people to respond to unexpected situations, navigate difficult conversations, and make decisions under pressure. With the AI Avatar, we explore how immersive, avatar-based tools can create a safe space for diplomats and attachés to practice these situations and strengthen their negotiation and communication skills.

Users can engage with avatars representing different roles, perspectives and strategic interests - from a climate-policy diplomat or Big Tech entrepreneur to an EU representative focused on tariffs - and practice responding to challenging scenarios through interactive exchanges. The prototype also explores how avatar-based interaction could support language learning, particularly by creating more opportunities for speaking and real-time communication practice.

 

Developed within the DIL's Tech & Innovation activities, the project provides a space to experiment with different AI models and approaches and explore their potential for diplomatic practice.
